Devastated HK Locals Stunned as Major Inferno Engulfs Apartment Buildings

University student a local student was among the many people gathered at the scene of a deadly fire that swept through significant parts of the eight-block residential estate in the city's northern district.
No fewer than over three dozen residents have died in yesterday's destructive fire currently, with many still missing, suggesting that this number will probably increase.
"It's a disaster," Thomas remarked about the incident, mentioning that he had seen a victim being taken away from the scene.
Over a thousand further individuals were required to evacuate the complex as the blaze expanded, with many heading to established facilities that have been established to house them.
The fire is gradually being contained, but emergency responders report they are uncertain when it will be completely extinguished.
Blazes could be observed emanating from separate apartments as countless residents watched in silence.
"I am overwhelmed. The building contains so many neighbours and acquaintances. I have no idea what is occurring any longer. See, all the apartments are just burning. I do not know what to do. I hope the local administration can help us to rebuild after this."
One woman mentioned that her neighbors dwell inside the complex and she was staying to learn if they succeeded to escape.
An elderly inhabitant, who has lived in the second building of the residential estate for in excess of 40 annums, described hearing "a very loud noise" and witnessing fire break out in a close block.
"I promptly went inside to pack up my things," the 66-year-old inhabitant commented.
"I am uncertain how I feel right now. I'm just pondering about where I'm going to stay overnight because I almost certainly won't be able to go return to my home."
While the origin of the inferno that overwhelmed the several high-rise structures remains unidentified, the blaze are suspected to have spread quickly through the bamboo scaffolding that enveloped the structures, which were undergoing refurbishments.
Some residents have demonstrated anger that such a significant fire could have taken place and questioned the reaction.
"In cases where there's a forest fire, they will utilize helicopters and drop fire retardant, but why is there not any action and how can they leave other structures burning?" asked another resident of Wang Fuk Court.
"This area is so proximate to the fire station and we assumed the fire could be extinguished quickly, but currently the fire has spread. I'm so discouraged," she added.
The resident mentioned that she had been offered little guidance from the local administration on where to seek assistance.
Multiple area residents had brought supplies to the victims - comprising numerous of warm layers and heat packs.
During interviews about their sentiments regarding the blaze, locals voiced that "the government is incompetent" and that they were "immensely distraught".
"We don't want to see any more casualties," commented an individual.
An older lady who lives in one of the damaged structures explained she was away when the blaze ignited but that she is worried about her residence because it is uninsured.
"I'm profoundly distressed that I have no home to go to at present," she added.
