In “It’s a Deal”, a look back reveals that popular personality Alastor, the Radio Demon was a serial killer in his mortal days. Knowing full well he was headed to the underworld, he made contact with the realm beyond beforehand to obtain a strong position there. The charismatic leader, the charismatic leader Hell’s cannibal community, vowed Alastor he would become “the most powerful Sinner in Hell” in return for his soul.

This prompts an important query: In what way is this character sufficiently strong to raise Alastor above every other Sinner Demons?

“The Rosie and Alastor deal is the initial building block in a larger narrative that encompasses a great deal, moving into the third season,” the creator explains. “Clearly that is a perfect question: How is she that powerful? The solution could be many things, but the answer is in season 3. I'm very excited for people to witness it.”

There’s no telling how long the audience will have to remain for Hazbin Hotel’s next season. The production companies have approved the third and fourth seasons, but the showrunner often notes that animated production is a slow, lengthy process, and later seasons have no release dates yet. Nevertheless, she says withholding on specific information is a crucial aspect of keeping the second season's focus in the right places.

“The challenge of any kind of deal with infernal beings, or narratives that have mysteries, is giving people sufficient clues to be like, Something's up here, and then revealing that gradually, and letting that be gratifying,” she comments. “So I am quite eager.”

Mysteries Resolved in Season 3

The creator assures that the upcoming season will address the questions fans have been asking, like why the cannibal leader ordered Alastor to vanish for a seven-year period, which diminished his power in Hell.

“The entire seven-year span, and the deals these humans are making, and all that — it contributes to a bigger narrative,” she reveals.

Meanwhile, the Rosie/Alastor backstory episode offers another glimpse into what the core cast of Demonic Sinners looked like as mortals, following after viewing Sir Pentious’ Victorian-era mortal appearance in episode 2. The creator says that a lot of thought went into the visual creation of these forms.

“The human versions of the characters hold great significance,” she says. “They vary from appearing quite distinct from their demon form to looking almost identical. With Pentious, the initial design we see, there was some internal discussion internally between choosing a design that symbolizes the personality, versus selecting an option that's very time-period accurate. We leaned toward creating a design that just seemed like it was him.”

She says the biggest debate over the mortal look of Pentious was his long hair: “We were like, ‘Nobody really had long hair of that style in Victorian-era London.’ But at the same time, we think the outline is so important, and we also just felt he looked good. We were like, ‘This seems correct.’ We kind of gave the excuse that he's a hermit, so he just allowed his hair to lengthen. So there's always a way. As we create the human versions of these personas […] it's such a fun thing to explore and figure out. I am looking forward for people to see more of the appearances of the human versions.”
