Kansas City Chiefs Confirm Domestic Violence Claims Connected to Wide Receiver Rashee Rice

The Kansas City Chiefs released a comment Wednesday night confirming they have knowledge of claims of abuse circulated in social media posts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver the athlete and had been in communication with the NFL.

The team did not mention the player by name in their announcement and said they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.

Allegations Shared on Instagram

The woman, who likewise did not name Rice directly, shared a series of photos on Instagram that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. She did say the individual in question was the father of her children, and it is known she has kids with Rice, whom the team drafted in the second round.

Official Complaints Reportedly Not on File

No police reports were available in Overland Park, Kansas where the incident is said to have taken place.

Rice's Prior Off-Field Troubles

Rice missed the initial part of this NFL campaign following an NFL suspension for his involvement in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Dallas highway that resulted in several individuals hurt. Rice was sentenced 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after entering a guilty plea to felony charges.

Statistically, Rice concluded the season with 53 catches for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Kansas City finished with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a decade.
