Keely Hodgkinson Concludes Season with Winning Performance at Athlos in NYC
Hodgkinson recorded her personal best of one minute 54.61 seconds the previous season in London.
The Olympic champion finished her 800m season with a triumph at the all-female Athlos meet in New York on Friday night.
{The current Olympic gold medallist, who earned bronze at the global championships recently, excelled in an impressive win in 1:56.53 in what was just her sixth appearance in a season affected by a muscle issue.
Compatriot and world silver medallist Georgia Hunter Bell took the runner-up spot again in one minute 58.33 seconds, while St Vincent's Shafiqua Maloney (1:58.57) claimed third.
"I haven't competed much this season so it was likely easier for me to compete and want to give it something," said the 23-year-old.
"The environment out there is crazy so it was really, really fun."
The female-exclusive meet packed the stadium in its second year, bringing a party atmosphere to conventional athletics, with musical performances and special crowns replacing standard medals.
The 23-times tennis major winner Serena Williams, who is wed to Athlos founder Alexis O., was present to award the winners with their tiaras.
Previous champions took home $60,000 (forty-four thousand six hundred and three pounds) - one of the largest prize purses in track and field.
The event also drew several top athletes, as Kenya's triple Olympic champion and global record breaker Faith Kipyegon triumphed in the mile race, crossing the finish line in four hours 17.78 minutes.
The US Brittany Brown, the 200m bronze winner from the recent Paris Games, won the 100m and 200m double.
